Huddersfield, Oct 19, 2020. The North Of England Wedding Awards raised the spirits of thewedding industry last night, by hosting their 9thannual awards virtually from the John Smiths Stadium in Huddersfield. Normally the 400 seater awards ceremony is held at York Racecourse with a 4 course meal, live entertainment and afterparty. With large scale gatherings not currently being allowed, the organisers (Wedding Fayres Yorkshire) opted to adapt rather than cancel.

Commenting on the event, Co-Director of Wedding Fayres Yorkshire Grant Saunders said “The wedding industry has been amongst the hardest hit during the pandemic. These businesses are struggling, we were determined that the event went ahead one way or another”
The North of England Wedding Awards is a customer service focused awards. Brides and Grooms are asked to nominate the suppliers they used on their wedding day, and thensubmit a vote grading the suppliers out of 10 on a few key points, including ‘overall professionalism’ and ‘quality of product or service’. This year, there were over 250 venues and small businesses in the running for 23 prestigious awards. The panel of expert judges had a tough time selecting their winner, with standards being so high.

Allan Johnson, Co-Director of Wedding Fayres Yorkshire Said “Whilst it was a shame that the physical event couldn’t go ahead, we wanted all the finalists to be recognised for their hard work, and still have a great night.”
The awards were hosted by radio presenter and former ‘on pitch announcer’ for Huddersfield Town Paul Clark & Allan Johnson, and broadcast live through social media with the help of Huddersfield based J&S Streaming Studios. Excited to be on board, The John Smiths Stadium provided the space for the virtual awards, and Huddersfield Photographer John Steel came along and captured the event perfectly. Over 1500 viewers watched live, many getting into the spirit of the ‘stay at home party’ by dressing in dinner jackets and pyjama bottoms. The event was a huge success, and delivered some much needed positivity for the wedding industry.
Winners of the Yorkshire venue category Thief Hall commented on Instagram “@NOEWA20 we can’t thank you enough for pushing on with this year’s awards and recognising the efforts of our industry when we need it the most”
